Week A

O God, make speed to save us; 
 O Lord, make haste to help us.

Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;* 
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.

Antiphon: O Lord my God, how excellent is your greatness!*
you are clothed with majesty and splendour (Psalm 104:1)

Opening (from Psalm 104)
You appointed the moon to mark the seasons,*
and the sun knows the time of its setting.
You make darkness that it may be night,*
in which all the beasts of the forest prowl.
May the glory of the Lord endure for ever;*
may the Lord rejoice in all his works.
May these words of mine please him;*
I will rejoice in the Lord.

Psalm 36
There is a voice of rebellion deep in the heart of the wicked;*
there is no fear of God before his eyes.
He flatters himself in his own eyes*
that his hateful sin will not be found out.
The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful;*
he has left off acting wisely and doing good.
He thinks up wickedness upon his bed
and has set himself in no good way;*
he does not abhor that which is evil.
Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens,*
and your faithfulness to the clouds.
Your righteousness is like the strong mountains,
your justice like the great deep;*
you save both man and beast, O Lord.
How priceless is your love, O God!*
your people take refuge under the shadow of your wings.
They feast upon the abundance of your house;*

God of justice and of mercy, open the eyes of sinners that they may see the light of your truth, know the power of your love, and share in the bounty of your heavenly table; through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen

Conclusion (from 1 John 4)
Beloved let us love one another,*
for love is of God;
And those who love are born of God*
and know God.
Those who do not love do not know God,*
for God is love.
In this the love of God was made manifest among us,*
that God sent his only Son into the world
so that we might live through him.
In this is love: not that we loved God,*
but that God loved us and sent his Son
to be the expiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God so loved us,*
we also ought to love one another.

Mark 6:30-46

 The apostles gathered around Jesus, and told him all that they had done and taught. He said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while.’ For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a deserted place by themselves. Now many saw them going and recognized them, and they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them. As he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things. When it grew late, his disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a deserted place, and the hour is now very late; send them away so that they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves to eat.’ But he answered them, ‘You give them something to eat.’ They said to him, ‘Are we to go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give it to them to eat?’ And he said to them, ‘How many loaves have you? Go and see.’ When they had found out, they said, ‘Five, and two fish.’ Then he ordered them to get all the people to sit down in groups on the green grass. So they sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before the people; and he divided the two fish among them all. And all ate and were filled; and they took up twelve baskets full of broken pieces and of the fish. Those who had eaten the loaves numbered five thousand men.

 Immediately he made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. After saying farewell to them, he went up on the mountain to pray.

Magnificat Antiphon: Our spirits rejoice* in God our saviour.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,*

The Almighty has done great things for me*
and holy is his name.
He has mercy on those who fear him*
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm;*
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,

Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever. Amen.

O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: increase and multiply upon us your mercy, that with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

Lord God almighty, come and dispel the darkness from our hearts, that in the radiance of your brightness we may know  you, the only unfading light, glorious in all eternity. Amen.
